I hope everyone’s summer is going well. We certainly have had our share of summer weather of late. It’s likely that it will be several more weeks before temperatures begin to temper.
Following our July meeting hiatus, we get back to our meeting schedule on Wednesday, August 25th.
Our guest speaker will be Mary Walsh, a local author and editor, with a number of books in print.
At our meeting she will be speaking about a memoir she wrote of her grandfather, a Siciilian-American immigrant named Sal Scavuzzo. The title of her book is, “Once upon a Time in Chicago”.
If you would like to see your Lodge before August 25th, there are many opportunities to do so.
On Saturday, August 7 from 10 AM to 3 PM our Lodge is participating in Community Day in the Park. The event at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Park in Mechanicsburg will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the park. Members of the Lodge will be manning a booth at the Bocce Courts and greeting people in the Mechanicsburg community, and hopefully potential members. Basic Bocce instruction and demonstration
will be offered.
By popular demand we will be gathering at Fratelli’s Restaurant in New Cumberland on Saturday, August 7th at 5 PM for a sumptuous Italian buffet and fellowship. It’s another “don’t miss gathering”. The dinner is $25 + tip per person. Members and guests are welcome.
On Saturday, August 14 we resume our Children’s Bocce Parties at the courts in Memorial Park. This event runs from 10 AM to Noon, followed by Pizza and soft drinks for the children and accompanying adults. Bocce instruction and game will be provided for youngsters 3 to 14 years old. Let’s introduce the game to another generation!
I look forward to seeing you at some, or all, of these activities before our August 25th meeting.
